St Fintans National School, Sutton, Dublin

School History

St Fintan’s National School was established on September 1st 1976 in temporary buildings on Burrow Road, Sutton. There were two teachers and 59 pupils present on that day.

On September 3rd 1981, a new school on Carrickbrack Road, opened its doors to approximately 350 pupils.

The present building was formally opened in 1982 by the then Minister for Education, Michael Woods and blessed by Bishop James Kavanagh.  It was then a 12 classroom school and was so up until the mid-2000’s.

With the increase in enrolments 4 new classrooms were added with the support of parents and the parish and a new and enlarged PE hall was added in 2014.

Currently we have staff of over 25, with class teachers, learning support teachers, a secretary, and caretaker, catering in total for almost 470 children.
